#5 is so true. There is no excuse for you not to be able to be able to save anywhere. And I've been stuck in that situation in Metroid plenty of times. I end up leaving the console on overnight so I can continue the game until I find a save point. Really annoying.

There's plenty of reason for it.

If Dead Rising let you save anywhere, the game wouldn't have achieved the need of being about survival and challenge.

Saving anywhere in a game has f*cked games up, imo.

I remember back when we couldn't f*cking save. All we had was a number of lives, a Game Over screen, and the knowledge that we got to start from the f*cking beginning unless there was a passcode feature that wasn't glitched to high Hell!!!

It worked fine for me and everyone I know...I mean yeah, there was some unnecessary frame lag..but besides that it was fine.

Half-Life 2's save system was perfect. You could save any time you wanted to, and it would autosave every minute or so, as well as giving you the ability to go back and load from one of the autosaves. It allows you to go back as far as you need to to get 'un-f*cked'.

If you can't create tension and suspense without removing or limiting vital parts of a game like saving, then you're doing it wrong. It doesn't create tension, it creates frustration. The "need of being about survival" shouldn't come at the expense of pissing off the player. That's just poor design.

Besides, I have a life outside of video games. If I'm bored and playing a game, and my dad walks in and says "Put your shoes on and get in the car" or "Come on let's go" (like he frequently does) I'd like to be able to save my game and come back later instead of desperately searching for a save point before my dad gets pissed and turns off the console.
