What is the difference between the 'Forum' section and the 'For Sale'
and 'Wanted' sections on Pinside? (It seems to me I see FS and WTB in
the Forum section.)

Pinside has both a forum and a market section. The forum is for discussions, and the market is for commerce. When you place an ad in the market, you are given the opportunity to have it auto-create a linked forum thread. Many people choose this option because it gives their market ad more exposure. The downside to doing this is that it potentially opens up your ad to criticism.

If you are willing to sell your machine for $1, and you have enough pinball
machines for everyone to get one at that price you should link to the forum. If
what you have to sell is more limited than that, or you want a decent price for
it avoid the secondary link. They are not an understanding bunch when it comes
to commerce... :-)

I go to the Em hangout and then to the EM parts wanted, Pinhead52 had a really nice AAB 1 hole coin door that I was pissed I missed out on

Yep, it's kind of interesting in the way that the most controversial ads are also the ones that get the most exposure, but the good/fair deals sink below the viewing threshold.
I wonder what would happen if I posted an unshopped Williams Flash for $5k? :D

You would get a thread about your insane price with multiple responses then a PM with a fair offer and you would sell the game rather quickly.
This is a tactic used by a lot of Ebay sellers to get their ad posted by others on multiple sites.
Nobody does a better job of getting your game advertised and sold than the price police.

The discussion area is only for agreement with everything, no dissent is ever allowed. There is no actual discussion allowed there, just mutual wang stroking.

I rather enjoy, linking any F.S. ad, to the forum..In general,I get more entertainment stoking the crowd, than any reality caca that floods the airwaves! The funniest part, is that everything I post over there F.S., sells at or very close to asking price!!!
