Season 40 (2023-2024)[]

Season Changes[]

• New opening sequence: Various shots of the set include the lights dimming, the Jeopardy! logo in an empty audience, shots of the cameraman and the crew getting ready to go on the air, contestants making their entrance, announcer Johnny Gilbert putting his jacket on and introducing the show, and host Ken Jennings making his entrance to the studio before the Jeopardy! logo zooms out, with the globe appearing on the right side of the screen instead of the center. Then, the Jeopardy! logo zooms forward, revealing the 2013-present set; the opening sequence first appeared on the December 19, 2023 episode, when the Second Chance Tournament is held.
• Mayim Bialik left Jeopardy! at the beginning of this season, with Ken Jennings becoming the sole host.
• On early episodes of this season:
  • The opening sequence remains the same as it was in Season 38 and Season 39.
  • The social media credits still plug Jeopardy!'s official accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
• On later episodes of this season, Twitter was replaced with X, and TikTok was added to the social media credits.
• The 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, 2023, as part of the Hollywood double strike ended on September 27, 2023, and the 2023 Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strike, which began on July 14, 2023 one month before the production of this season began, ended on November 9, 2023.
• The Sony Pictures Television logo returns, transitioning from the 2021 Sony logo. This also happens on sister show Wheel of Fortune.
• Johnny no longer announces the next day's contestants during the closing credits after the host signs off.

September 2023[]

• September 11, 2023: Season 40 begins.
• September 11-29, 2023: The Second Chance Tournament was held with Season 37 contestants.
• September 27, 2023: The second season of Primetime Celebrity Jeopardy! premieres, and was hosted by Ken Jennings.

October 2023[]

• October 2-December 18, 2023: The Champions Wildcard Tournament was held with Seasons 37-38 contestants.
  • October 2, 2023: Champions Wildcard spades group 1 began.
  • October 11, 2023: A Celebrity Jeopardy! tiebreaker was played for the first time in Final Jeopardy!. Katie Nolan won the tiebreaker and advances to Semi-finals. It marked the first show with five rounds, including the Triple Jeopardy! round.
  • October 19, 2023: Josh Saak won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard spades group.
  • October 20, 2023: Champions Wildcard diamonds group 2 began.

November 2023[]

• November 8, 2023: Emily Sands won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard diamonds group.
• November 9, 2023: Champions Wildcard clubs group 3 began.
• November 28, 2023: Nick Cascone won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard clubs group.
• November 29, 2023: Champions Wildcard hearts group 4 began.

December 2023[]

• December 18, 2023: Yungsheng Wang won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard hearts group.
• December 19, 2023-January 15, 2024: The Second Chance Tournament was held, this time with Season 39 contestants.
  • December 19, 2023: A new opening sequence featuring various behind the scenes clips is introduced.
  • December 22, 2023: Show #9000 of Jeopardy! aired on this date; however, due to discrepancies in the show count, this is actually the 8,935th show.

January 2024[]

• January 16-February 22, 2024: The Champions Wildcard Tournament was held, this time with champions from Season 39.
  • January 16, 2024: Champions Wildcard group 1 began.
  • January 23, 2024: Lisa Ann Walter wins $1,000,000 for the Entertainment Community Fund, and the title of the Celebrity Jeopardy! champion.

February 2024[]

• February 2, 2024: Juveria Zaheer won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard group 1.
• February 5, 2024: Champions Wildcard group 2 began.
• February 22, 2024: Deb Bilodeau won $100,000 in the Champions Wildcard group 2.
• February 23-March 19, 2024: The Tournament of Champions was held. Yogesh Raut won the Tournament of Champions with $250,000. Ben Chan finishes second with $100,000 and Troy Meyer finishes third with $50,000.

March 2024[]

• March 20-April 9, 2024: Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament is held.
  • March 22, 2024: The real 9,000th episode of Jeopardy! aired on this date, which is actually numbered as show #9065.

April 2024[]

• April 9, 2024: Victoria Groce won $100,000 in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament.
• April 10, 2024: Jeopardy! returns in a regular format after 8 months of waiting.
• April 18, 2024: Alison Betts finishes with a 5-day total with $121,500.

May 2024[]

• May 1, 2024: Amy Hummel finishes with a 5-day total with $100,994. Also, the second season of the Jeopardy! Masters tournament is held, and it was hosted by Ken Jennings.
• May 21, 2024: Grant DeYoung finishes with a 4-day total with $81,203.
• May 22, 2024: Victoria Groce wins $500,000, and the title of Jeopardy! Masters Champion.
• May 28, 2024: Amar Kakiride finishes with a 4-day total of $55,899.
• May 29, 2024: Adriana Harmeyer makes her Jeopardy! debut.

June 2024[]

• June 19, 2024: Adriana Harmeyer finishes with a 15-day total of $349,600.
• June 21, 2024: A tiebreaker clue played for the sixth time during a regular play game in Final Jeopardy!
• June 28, 2024: Drew Basile finishes with a 7-day total of $129,601. Drew also appeared on Survivor on CBS.
